Tomorrow, September 29, I’ll be at Marketing Rocks #3 in Iași, together with the ChemiCloud.com team, for a full day of conversations around marketing, eCommerce, technology and everything that happens behind the scenes when businesses prepare for one of the busiest periods of the year.
I’m really looking forward to being part of the Black Friday War Room, a panel focused on the realities of preparing for Black Friday — not only from a marketing perspective, but as a complete business operation.
Because a successful Black Friday campaign is about much more than a good offer and a large advertising budget.
When traffic starts growing and thousands of people arrive at the same time, marketing, eCommerce, technology, infrastructure and logistics suddenly become parts of the same system. And if one of those parts is not ready, the impact can quickly become a business problem.
What I’ll be talking about
My part of the conversation will naturally come from the infrastructure side.
At ChemiCloud.com, we spend a lot of time thinking about what happens behind the website: how systems behave when traffic suddenly increases, how you prepare for peak demand, what you should be watching and how you react when something does not behave the way you expected.
I’ll share some thoughts about preparing infrastructure for high-traffic events, the kind of problems that may never appear during a normal day, and why simply adding more resources is not always the solution.
But I don’t want this to become a conversation about servers, graphs and technical terminology.
What makes the topic interesting is the connection between the technical side and the business itself: what happens to the customer experience, conversion rate and revenue when the technology behind an online store is not prepared for the moment the campaign actually succeeds?
The interesting part starts when the campaign works
There is something slightly ironic about Black Friday.
You spend weeks preparing a campaign hoping that as many people as possible will visit your website. And then, when they finally do, your technology needs to be ready for exactly the success you were trying to create.
That is why preparation matters.
Some problems can be solved quickly. Others need to be discovered weeks before the campaign. And sometimes what initially looks like a hosting problem turns out to be somewhere completely different in the application or the wider technology stack.
These are the kinds of situations I hope we can make practical and easy to understand during the discussion tomorrow.
More than a technical conversation
What I like about the Black Friday War Room format is that it looks at Black Friday as a journey rather than a collection of isolated topics.
The conversation moves from preparation to launch, peak traffic, orders, delivery and what happens afterwards.
That is much closer to how things work in real life.
Marketing cannot operate completely separately from technology. Technology cannot ignore the commercial goals of the campaign. And infrastructure is only valuable when it helps the business deliver a good experience to the people who actually arrive on the website.
See you in Iași
A big thank you to Sinaps.ro and the Marketing Rocks team for the invitation and for bringing together people from different sides of the industry for this conversation.
I’m happy to represent ChemiCloud.com and bring the hosting and infrastructure perspective to the table.
If you’re attending Marketing Rocks #3 tomorrow at Hotel International in Iași, come and say hello. The ChemiCloud.com team will be there as well, and I’m looking forward to meeting people, exchanging ideas and having some good conversations outside the panel too.
Black Friday is coming quickly, so the timing couldn’t be much better. See you tomorrow!
